Putting “Ideal Feet” and Dr. Scholls to Shame!

Friday, 16 June 2017 21:04

Almost every day we have a patient come into the office with a Dr. Scholl’s insoles which were selected by standing on a pressure matt in a store. The interesting thing is -  I have rarely if ever seen these insoles solve a problem,  but on the positive side the Dr. Scholl’s insoles are reasonably priced and they do seem to help a little bit. No one seems to be hurt by them. The Ideal Feet insoles seems to have  about the same success rate as the Dr. Scholl’s insoles, however they cost in the neighborhood of $400. The ideal feet insoles are not custom-made but are “custom selected” – which I suppose means an over-the-counter insole was picked to fit the foot. It is hard to believe that different insoles were selected because all of the insoles look exactly the same. If someone has pain in the front of their foot there is no effort made to customize the insert to reduce the pain.  Worse, these overpriced inserts are nonrefundable.  One just has to look at the bad reviews on the Internet to be discouraged from purchasing these overpriced insoles!

In my 30 years of podiatry experience I have made innumerable custom orthotics and have evolved my orthotic preferences over the years.  I also have found that not everybody needs a custom orthotic. A large percent of people do excellently with an economical over-the-counter orthotic which is modified to their foot.

We have developed a new over-the-counter orthotic which we customize for your foot. We call them “DPI” – or Dr. Prant’s Insole. Our patients love them because if they have pressure points or sore areas on their feet, we can reduce the pressure on those points and get rid of the pain! We can balance your foot to reduce the pressure on the ball of your foot. Dr. Prant who has over 30 years of making orthotics will heat mold the basic insert and grind away certain areas or build up certain areas. This is done personally by Dr. Prant. Having an orthotic that balances your foot lets you to walk comfortably.

In the past few years since we have begun offering this less than $100 orthotic they have been very popular! And even though they can be changed from shoe to shoe we have many people coming in asking for us to make them extra pairs.
